The CIITE Project

Colleges Integrating Immigrants to Employment

The Colleges Integrating Immigrants to Employment (CIITE) project was designed to improve pathways for internationally trained immigrants (ITIs) through the Ontario college system, from pre-entry services through employment transition and into the workforce. CIITE’s vision was for skilled immigrants to have access to programs and services in the Ontario college system that build on their qualifications and expedite their securing employment in their field of expertise or in a related field.

Our ultimate goal was for every immigrant in Ontario to more quickly and efficiently achieve employment that leverages their prior education, experience, and expertise.

Project Work

CIITE just wrapped up Phase 3.2 (2009-2011), a two-year initiative that aimed to implement the programs and services developed in previous phases. Our focus was implementation and sustainability of programs and services, including ITI advising services which were in place at 18 colleges across the province.

CIITE Phase 3.2 consisted of two distinct projects: Internationally Trained Immigrant (ITI) Advising Services and the My Record/Record of Education and Experience (REE) pilot. These pilots were supported by a project evaluation and marketing and communications services.

ITI Advising Services addressed the issue that too many skilled immigrants waste time, money and motivation in order to obtain information, advice and support to reach their employment goals.  ITI Advising Services are critical to raising awareness of, and access to, the information that will enable ITIs to gain meaningful employment.  Click here for a map of Internationally Trained Immigrant Advising Services locations.

The My Record and the Record of Education and Experience (REE) were developed to streamline the recognition of international credentials for internationally trained immigrants (ITIs). This activity was piloted  at Algonquin, Fanshawe, George Brown, and Sheridan.
