Intensive Behavioural Intervention for Instructor Therapists
In 2007, CONNECT, in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, offered an exciting training initiative. Aimed at Instructor Therapists working with children with autism, whose families had chosen the Direct Funding Option in the Autism Intervention Program, CONNECT coordinated a series of workshops aimed at enhancing the Instructor Therapists’ IBI knowledge and skills.
This training was delivered exclusively in colleges offering Autism and Behavioural Science programs funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities., and to fully meet training needs province-wide, an on-line version of the curriculum was developed, going live in 2009.
The workshops were based on the curriculum endorsed by MCYS, and topics included:
- Autism: description, behavioural characteristics and assessment
- Intensive Behavioural Intervention
- Arranging Physical Environments
- Arranging Antecedent Conditions
- Arranging Consequent Events
- Data Collection
- Imitation Training
- Teaching Language
- Promoting Peer Interaction
- Professional Behaviour
